He is seemingly loved by the vast majority of the population for all the changes he has brought in since becoming king.

Ampitheatre at Kasbah Tamadot

Not many of us get to go to Morocco and create a garden. Not least with the garden owner’s words ringing in our ears “enjoy yourself!” But that’s exactly what happened when I went out to Kasbah Tamadot, Richard Branson’s Moroccan retreat, where we have created a turf amphitheatre and a new welcoming courtyard. How I was going to do it I wasn’t quite sure of, as none of the garden staff spoke English, I have no knowledge of Arabic or Berber and I knew school boy French communication was going to be a challenge. With the help of “Education For all Morocco”we have organized a tea for the girls that take part in the education scheme. The purpose of “Education For all”, allows girls from the rural communities of the High Atlas Mountains get the opportunity of continuing their education beyond primary school, as school is only compulsory till the age of 11.

Colleges, mostly several kilometers away in larger towns, are not accessible to them for two main reasons including their parents cannot afford to pay for lodgings near colleges or their parents do not have the confidence in existing facilities near colleges to entrust their daughters to be away from home.

“Education For All” has been established to help provide the opportunity of a college education for girls from rural Moroccan communities. By organizing this Moroccan afternoon tea for the girls, it was a way to show them something that they never experienced before and also allow them to practice their French and their English.

Until next time,

Ariane

Deputy General Manager
