April has flown past and before we know it we have arrived at the end of another winter season at The Lodge. It has been a season of record-breaking snowfall and freezing temperatures and we have been able to enjoy fresh powder even up until the beginning of this week. On Tuesday, the team all took the opportunity to have one final ski together (minus a very pregnant Hannah, and me -I was still struggling to walk, let alone ski, after the London Marathon on Sunday!). However we all had a great day and everyone enjoyed a last blast down the mountain in some excellent fresh snow only to enjoy a traditional Fondu together too. It was also the last chance for our lovely Will to ski with the team before he heads back to England. Yes, unfortunately it is true. Will is moving on to a new challenge in Yorkshire with his lovely wife Leah to open their own Pub! We all wish him the best of luck and we will all miss him. However he has promised a free pint to us all when we visit which we will definitely be taking him up on!!

I would also like to take this opportunity to say a massive Thank You to everyone who has supported my marathon journey this winter! It has not been the best conditions at times in which to train – 3 metres of snow is difficult to walk in, let alone try to run in! But somehow I managed it and finished my first ever Marathon in 4 hours and 28 seconds. I loved every minute and the support from around the course was incredible – I am definitely hooked now! I am also delighted to let you all know that currently I have raised over £4000.00 for both of my charities – Mind and Virgin Unite, with more sponsorship still coming in! Thank You to the team and to all of you who have supported me.

So what is happening in the Summer I hear you ask?! Well, as you will have gathered there will be a few changes but I am delighted to let you know that Gareth will be returning to take over the reigns as General Manager for Hannah’s maternity cover! We are all very excited to see G back at The Lodge after his stint on Necker Island and cannot wait to hear all about his year over there. Ashley will experience her first Summer in the Alps, along with George, Alice, Hugh and Darren. And finally, you will still see the familiar faces of Dan, Sara, Carla, Victoria and myself here to welcome you back. We are all excited to leave the ski boots behind and don our walking boots instead. And of course there are plenty of events happening in Verbier throughout the summer to keep us busy!

There is only one thing left to say really. We wish Hannah all the best of luck for baby Allen number 2 and look forward to enjoying a pint or two in Yorkshire with Will next time we see him!

I will of course keep you updated with Hannah’s news over the next month, but until June, thanks for an epic season and see you all in the Summer!

Take care,

Hayley x

Well I have to start with an apology for not blogging for a while, but it has been a very busy time here at The Lodge! Since our last update, Spring has most certainly arrived in Verbier and we are enjoying fantastic spring skiing. But even with all the sun, the snow is still good up the mountain above Les Ruinettes. We had another heavy snowfall at the beginning of the week, with over 20cm of snow falling up the top, which was welcomed by everyone. Great news as this means the season is definitely not over yet!

Bam Bam on Savoleyres side of Verbier

Come and take Bam Bam out whilst you snow-shoe up the mountain!

We have been enjoying some great weather in the last few weeks as you can see from the photo I took last week. The temperatures have dropped down to a chilly -26C on the mountain so if you fancy a break one day from the slopes, there is always the option to snow-shoe. A great and easy way to see the mountain (and the spectacular views!) but in a different way. And Bam Bam is always keen to keep you company!

If you are interested in staying with us here at The Lodge, then we’ve got individual rooms available from 15th to 22nd April for 3, 4 or 7 nights. Please contact our Reservations Team for more details.

Hayley getting ready for a run!

Catch up with Hayley’s latest training efforts as she gets ready for the 2012 Virgin London Marathon.

So, I did it. The 15K mark was reached this week. That is just under 10 miles – only another 16 to go then! I have been working up to it and trying to fit it around a few late nights with the guests we have staying at The Lodge. I haven’t been able to brave the cold and snow just yet – I reckon another few weeks and it will start to be a bit more running-friendly outside, but for now, all the snow is keeping me inside on the treadmill.

Happy New Year! I can’t believe as I am writing this we are already in to our third week of 2012! I hope you all had a great festive period – we certainly did here in Verbier! World-renowned for being one of the best places to see in the New Year, Verbier certainly didn’t disappoint this year either! Fantastic fireworks all over the town, lots and lots of snow and the biggest snow-fall fight in Place Centrale that I have ever seen! And we celebrated in style at The Lodge, with a delicious five-course tasting menu, followed by champagne on the balconies of the Master Suites to watch the fireworks in the town at Midnight. There aren’t many better ways to celebrate.
